The Outlast technology

According to NASA's website, the outlast technology was developed in the 1980s, while the space agency's Johnson Space Center in Houston sought ways to improve the insulation of spacesuit gloves. In collaboration with Triangle Research and Development Corporation, the US-based centre explored phase-change materials, which maintain a steady temperature while changing phases from solid to liquid or vice versa. They were successful in demonstrating the efficacy, however, it was never applied in space.

Louise Nicholson  will utilise Outlast for her endeavour to assist women in dealing with menopausal symptoms. She did a lot of preliminary research to find out what was available in terms of clothing, and all she found was nightwear, according to her statement. She considered previous possibilities insufficient until she discovered a substance created with NASA funds.

NASA has a long history of transferring technologies to the private sector. Fifty-One Apparel, founded by Nicholson in 2017, is named after the average age at which women begin to experience menopause. By attaching Outlast to cellulosic yarn, the company's apparel preserves the temperature-regulating qualities of phase-change materials while maintaining the appearance and feel of high-end textiles. It could be one of the relief for menopause symptoms. With this, a piece of technology developed by the space agency for its space endeavours may help older women cope with the effects of menopause.

What is the relief for menopause symptoms?
