Sikha Mitra, the wife of late Congress leader Somen Mitra denied being a part of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
She also denied contesting in the West Bengal elections. Her response comes after the BJP announced the names of 148 election candidates which included her name too. She was nominated as the candidate for the Chowringhee assembly. "No, I am not contesting from anywhere. My name has been announced without my consent. Also, I am not joining the BJP," said Sikha Mitra. Her son Rohan Mitra had tweeted a video that confirmed that she isn't joining the BJP.

Sikha Mitra had threatened to quit Congress to join the BJP
Sikha Mitra had earlier threatened to leave the Congress and join the BJP. She had accused West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of 'sidelining' her and her son Rihan Mitra.
"The way the state Congress is being run is unacceptable. The state Congress leadership is compromising with the core ideology of the Congress. Both my son and I have been sidelined in the party. We don't have any future in the party," she said.
The speculation around her joining BJP was further heightened with her meeting with Suvendu Adhikari, a former TMC leader who had joined the BJP. After the meeting, she had said that Adhikari had requested her to join the BJP and even guaranteed a ticket to contest in the West Bengal elections. "I haven't made any decision yet. I want to speak to our party president Sonia Gandhi before taking any decision. You never know what is in store in future," she said.
