The Naya Nagar police have nabbed the accused, identified as Manoj Sane who owns a small shop in Boriwali. They are interrogating him for further information.

According to recent developments in the case, the police told the Indian Express that the accused, Manoj Ramesh Sane, claimed that he has been HIV positive since 2018 and has been on medication since. He said that he never had a physical relationship with the deceased Saraswathi Vaidya. He stated that she was "like his daughter." He alleged that he only tried to "dispose the body because he was scared that the police would suspect him of murder. He also said that he was planning on taking his life thereafter.

Sane also mentioned that Vaidya was planning to appear for the class 10 exam, and he was teaching her math. One of the officers revealed that there was a board at the apartment with math equations on it.

Sane told the police that he found Vaidya lying on the floor on the morning of June 3 with froth coming out of her mouth. He alleged that he checked for her pulse but found her dead, and hence decided to get rid of the body.

He also told the police that he has an Industrial Training Institute certificate but has been working as a PDS shop for the past 10 years because he wasn’t able to get a decent job. A senior police officer observed that Sane displayed no sense of remorse while being interrogated.

According to NDTV reports, an orphanage worker shared that while leaving Vaidya, she claimed that she was going to go live with her uncle, who stays in Mumbai. She had claimed that he was an extremely rich cloth merchant. They also added that Vaidya had last visited the orphanage a couple of years ago and seemed to be unhappy.

Following the complaint, a team of police officials reached the spot, broke open the flat, and found the decomposed body of the deceased, chopped into pieces, lying in the flat. Police said that the accused had boiled her body parts in a pressure cooker to get rid of the smell and then stuffed them into plastic covers to dispose them off. The woman was identified as Saraswati Vaidya, an orphan.

The police immediately began hunting for the accused, and he was soon caught in the colony. According to preliminary reports, the deceased woman had been living with the accused in the flat for the past three years. She was working at a ration shop.

Neighbours informed the cops that the couple often got into fights. They also claimed that he was seen feeding stray dogs in the locality over the past two days, something that he has never done before. Police suspect that he might have given some of the body parts to the dogs in order to completely destroy the evidence.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Jayant Bajbale said that apparently, the accused tried to destroy the evidence by chopping the body into pieces. He was caught while he was trying to leave the building. He added that the police are interrogating him further and that the accused displayed no signs of remorse.

The incident happened on June 4. The accused used two cutters, including an electrical one, to chop the body into small pieces. The police added that some body parts seemed to be missing, and they are suspecting that the accused may have dumped them in different areas over the past two to three days. The police only found the woman’s legs and chopped body parts stuffed in utensils and buckets. They also didn't find any blood or stains inside the flat. Police suspect that the accused initially strangled the woman to death before chopping her body into several pieces.

The police found one tree cute, one woodcutter and a black plastic in the kitchen. They have now confiscated the two cutters used to chop the deceased’s body. A complaint under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code has been filed against the accused.

The dismembered body parts of the woman have been sent to JJ hospital for analysis. Further investigations into the case are ongoing.

This ghastly crime happened two weeks ago when a headless body of a woman was found on Uttan Beach in Bhayander. The woman’s husband was detained by the police, who suspect that she was having an extramarital affair.

This brutal murder reminds us of the merciless killing of Shraddha Walkar, who was killed and chopped into 35 pieces by her live-in partner Aftab Poonawalla in Delhi last year.
