The mothers of 1 to 12 year old children will be vaccinated on priority, said the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday.
Banerjee further said that the students who want to pursue higher education in foreign countries are worried as many people in them are vaccinated with Covaxin which is yet to be accepted in other countries. She has also asked the Chief Secretary to write to the Health Secretary of the Central government for a solution for this issue.
A similar announcement was also made by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Chouhan announced that the parents of children aged lesser than 12 years would be vaccinated on priority. He said, "We have decided to give priority in vaccination to the parents of children less than 12 years of age as it is feared that the third wave of corona will affect them the most, " on June 3.
The CM of MP further added that this step would help in taking better care of the children. Hence, in case if the children contract the infection, the parents would be around to help them out.
On Monday, the West Bengal government limited the vaccination against COVID-19 to priority groups following the reported shortage in doses. The priority groups included the Frontline workers, along with their families, media professionals, sanitation workers and more. These groups will now also include the parents of children aged between 1 to 12 years.
The West Bengal government further added that they would check the stock of the vaccine and take the decision in the upcoming days.
A total number of 32,18,344 people have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in the state of West Bengal. And 18353 people received both their doses. On the other hand, in the state of Madhya Pradesh, 6211455 people received their first dose and 1,26,238 people completed their second dose too. More on this data here.
