Moderna Vaccine for children: Moderna Inc on Monday said that its COVID-19 vaccine is able to generate a strong immune response in children aged six to 11 years. The pharmaceutical giant now plans to submit the data to global regulators.

Moderna has assured that its two-dose vaccine generated virus-neutralising antibodies in children. Further, it said that the safety of the vaccine is comparable to what was seen in clinical trials of adolescents and adults. This is cited as interim data and needs to be peer-reviewed.
It is unclear when the US regulators will weigh in on the shot. Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine is authorised for adults over the age of 18. They applied in June 2021 for approval for use among children aged 12 through 17.
The United States of America authorised the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for COVID-19 for children aged 12 to 15 years in May. The US Food and Drug Administration granted an emergency use authorisation for the jab to children who are at least 16 years old as well.
Moderna has said that in its trial completed on 4,753 participants, side effects were mostly "mild to moderate in severity". The most common side effects were fatigue, headache, fever and injection site pain.
The company statement did not disclose any further information on side effects such as heart inflammation called myocarditis.
In India Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin had been granted emergency use approval for children in the 2-18 years age group. Zydus Cadila 3 dose Covid Vaccine ZyCov D also has been declared safe for children above 12. Serum Institute’s Novavax is a third vaccine candidate for children's vaccine in India. It has been reportedly given the go-ahead for trials by Drugs and Comptroller General of India. however, no mass vaccination programmes have been rolled out for children below 18 in India yet.
