Seuti Films Production Registers Title For Mirabai Chanu's Biopic

Mirabai Chanu biopic title registered: Manipur based Seuti Films Production registered the title for Mirabai Chanu's biopic with the Film Forum Manipur (FFM). The groundwork for the Manipur's latest biopic's production has begun.

Tokyo Olympic Medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu's biopic is based on her life story and how she made the country proud by winning the country's first silver medal in women's 49 kg weightlifting category with a total lift of 202 kg.

The title's registration was done on Thursday at the Forum's Lamphelpat office with the Chairman S Mangoljao. He wished success for the writer of the film Manaobi and Director OC Meira in their venture stating that the Forum's executive committee will extend its full support in their production, as per reports.

Here's what we know so far about the film:

  • It will be a feature film based on Mirabai Chanu's life. Important events of her life like her childhood, life in the village, her introduction and training in weightlifting; participation at national and international events, and her win at Tokyo Olympics will be essayed.
  • It also aims to highlight her experiences in the city in a realistic manner.
  • Mirabai has expressed her desire that her role should be portrayed by a native girl from Manipur who has a similar appearance. Once the actor is finalised, she will take part in an acting course in Mirabai's village for 6 months to become camera-ready.
  • The film will be dubbed in English and other Indian languages and will be infused with Manipur's culture and ethos.

The FFM in its statement said that any film production company needs to seek permission from them for producing films based on the life of renowned personalities of Manipur or showcasing Manipur's art and culture.

Mirabai Chanu became India's first Tokyo Olympics medallist and country's first silver medalist in Women's Weightlifting after lifting 84 kgs and 87 kgs successfully. She is looking forward to clinching a Gold Medal in Paris Olympics in 2024.
