The Delhi police has arrested three people, two men and one woman, on the accusation of prostitution and forced marriage of a 17 year old minor on Sunday. What is unusual about the case is that the complaint came from the daughter of the woman who was arrested, who is also 17. The daughter took a courageous step and took help from an NGO and Delhi Commission for Women to get her mother arrested for the heinous crime.

“The arrested woman along with a man caught hold of the girl at one of the railway stations in Delhi and gave her false hopes of giving her a job. “The complainant girl was aware of her mother’s action. She knew that her mother had earlier been to jail in cases of prostitution. She also knew where her mother had married off the survivor. She took the help of an NGO and rescued the girl from the place she was married to. She then contacted DCW and came with an NGO representative to get help on this case. Then we constituted a team and sent it with the girl to lodge an FIR at the Jafrabad police station,” added the DCW official.

About the girl’s courage, Bhupinder said that the girl has not only shown courage but also utmost strength in getting her own mother arrested. “When I asked her how can you go against your own mother? The girl replied, ‘if my mother is doing wrong then I will definitely stand against her.’,” said Bhupinder in the phone interview.
