Kashmir's Jasia gets Selected for Indian Woman’s Cricket Camp

Say cheers to first ever Kashmiri female cricketer! Jasia Akhtar has been selected for the Indian national women cricket camp scheduled to be held in Bangalore from 18th September. Further, Akhtar is donning the hat of being the top woman cricketer of Kashmir for quite some time now.

Jasia, plays for Punjab in Twenty20 cricket. When training on the field, she was informed about her selection by the selectors.

The camp will shortlist the nation's best cricketers. Then the chosen ones will be groomed and will be selected for various teams. And finally, they will be sorted in final Team India call-up.

Jasia hails from Shopian district of Kashmir. She joined the Punjab cricket team in the year 2013. The selectors spotted the young talent during her stint in high a performance coaching camp at Just Cricket Academy Bangalore.

Earlier, under her captaincy, LIC Chandigarh side triumphed against Sri Lankan Air force in Queens India Cup in New Delhi.

Jasia is the first female Cricketer from Kashmir and the second cricketer from J&K to be selected for the National camp. Roopali Slathia of Jammu being the first player.

“I am happy to learn that after me Jasia has become the second player from J&K to get national camp call. It is not a small achievement and being part of the camp as player and a coach I know what it means,” Jammu-based woman cricketer turned Coach Roopali Slathia, told the Greater Kashmir.

“She has got the talent and ability to achieve big by getting selected for the national team. To get named in India camp is the first step and I am sure that she can make it into the team as well. She has all the talent and ability to do that”, she added.

“It is a proud moment for all of us who are associated with women cricket in J&K. I hope that she does well in the camp and get a place in the national team,” said Coach Abida. Moreover, she is confident about Jasia’s selection in the national team.
