Her dedication and strength have captured national attention. Her story tells the harsh reality in the remote area of the hill district in Manipur.
Maidiniliu Prinmai's story
Amidst the tough terrain, Asha worker Prinmai has been delivering relentless service to her villagers over the past 13 years. Covering eight hours on foot across steep and rocky Mountains, she ensured that every child in her village received two drops of polio vaccine.
The State Government of Manipur recently initiated a statewide polio immunisation Drive as a part of the intensified pulse polio immunisation (IPPI) campaign. Asha workers like Prinmai play a key role in reaching children aged 0-5.
Praising her dedicated service, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla shared a post on Facebook, writing, "13 years of tireless service. ASHA worker Meidinliu (51) walked 8 hours across hills to reach Attangkhunou and Attangkhullen villages for the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) Programme — delivering essential health services and medicines to ensure no one is left behind. A salute to her dedication and spirit of service!"
According to Prinmai, just like her, many women continue to survive in distant, remote villages without access to proper medical checkups, even during pregnancy and lactation. She also shared that due to the absence of sufficient medical care, children with the congenital disease and entrusted to God's will, as family members have no access to timely diagnosis or treatment.
Prinmai's persistence and selfless dedication stand as a testament to her strong sense of responsibility for the health and well-being of her community.
