The Mangaluru Chapter of the Indian Medical Association's Women's Doctors Wing is organising an unprecedented event called the 'Doctors Fashion Ramp 2023' on October 15, 2023, at the IMA Hall, located near Milagres Church in Hampankatta, Mangaluru. The event is scheduled to commence at 4 pm.

According to Manglorean News, doctors will be dressed in both traditional Indian sarees and attire as well as Western gowns as they make their way down the runway.

Providing information about the event, Dr Jessy Maria D'souza, who serves as the President of the Women's Doctors Wing of IMA in Mangaluru and works as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Salvadore Monteiro Rural Health Training Centre associated with Father Muller Medical College, expressed her pride in organising this one-of-a-kind event.

"In this unique event, medical professionals, temporarily setting aside their healthcare responsibilities, will step into the spotlight of a fashion show. They will be showcasing both traditional Indian attire and Western clothing as they grace the runway. This glamorous event provides a platform for these female doctors to display their fashion and modeling talents."

The participants will be categorised based on age, with three groups representing ages 20-40, 40-60, and over 60. These doctors will strut down the runway, proving to the world that they can be showstoppers in addition to their roles as healthcare providers.

This initiative not only brings women doctors into the limelight but also sends a powerful message to the medical community and society that their voices, skills, and talents are valuable and deserve recognition.

Similar Plan, Different Motive

Earlier in July this year, the Kashish Social Foundation in Pune hosted a unique charity event involving doctors to raise awareness about women's health. The money generated from the fashion show has been utilised to supply 100,000 sanitary napkins to women residing in remote areas and conduct HPV vaccinations.

As reported by the Punekar Newsover 300 doctors hailing from different regions within the state participated in the said event. The show featured two rounds of runway walks, with the first round showcasing designer outfits and the second round, referred to as the "social work round," featuring doctors wearing white aprons.
