Kristi Wade stated that “As I came out of our garage, I heard a growl behind or beside one of our cars and I knew it was a cat because I know what a cat sounds like.”
Kristi screamed for help and her husband caught hold of the feline and realised it was a bobcat after taking a closer look. He immediately tossed the bobcat across their front yard and screamed at people to take cover. The bobcat once again ran under the car and Happy could be heard saying that he was going to kill the bobcat.
Local reports confirmed that the feline was a bobcat that had rabies. The Pender County Sherriff’s Office got a 911 call from a neighbour who informed the police about the incident. The neighbour also stated that the won required medical attention.
According to WECT 6 News, the law enforcement eventually killed the bobcat and its body was sent to a state lab where it tested positive for rabies. Kristi received multiple puncture wounds and scratches and was bitten by the bobcat several times. Happy stated that he was bitten by the bobcat three times before he threw it. He managed to shoot the bobcat once and stated “I’m not happy that this happened, we don’t take any pleasure that I shot the cat.”
The couple had to get over 30 shots each and have gone through treatment for rabies.
