Daughter whatsapp status: A girl's WhatsApp status became the bone of contention between two families. The issue snowballed to such an extent that a woman involved in the fight lost her life. It all started when a girl named Preeti Prasad in in Maharashtra’s Palghar district put up WhatsApp status. Seeing it, her 17-year-old friend got infuriated. She lived in the same neighbourhood.
She went to Preeti's house to confront her. She was accompanied by her mother and brother. The confrontation turned into a brawl and the girl's mother Lilavati Devi Prasad suffered injuries on her ribs. She was rushed to the hospital but she succumbed to her injuries on 13 February. According to the police, the woman was already suffering from health issues but it was the injury that resulted in her death.
Based on the victim’s complaint, Boisar police registered an FIR under section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the minor girl, her mother, brother and sister.
Inspector Suresh Kadam, head of Boisar police station has refused to disclose the contents of the WhatsApp Status. He said that there was no need for the girl to take the WhatsApp status personally. The minor girl has been sent to a correction home, as per a report.
This is not the first time when a WhatsApp status landed a woman in trouble. Nafisa Atari is a teacher whose social media post allegedly celebrating Pakistan’s win against India in a 2021 T20 match, was arrested in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Her employer also ouster her from her job which led to the termination of her services from Neerja Modi School.
It all started when after Pakistan secured a victory against India in the T20 cricket game in Dubai on October 24, Atari reportedly shared a WhatsApp status writing, “We wonnnn.” which didn't go down well with people.
