Cop takes girl hostage: In a shocking incident reported from Maharashtra's Ahmednagar, a dismissed officer of the law took a girl hostage after a dispute with her mother. He fired at other police officials who tried to confront him. He was eventually cornered and a case was registered against him. No one was injured in the attack.

The hostage situation took place Thursday at Digraj village. "He barged into the woman's house this morning and took the girl hostage," police were quoted saying, as per a PTI report.

The accused was identified as one Sunil Lokhande, who was dismissed from service after being involved in an extortion case from 2012.

After Lokhande took the girl inside a house, police attempted to coax him out. There was a scuffle when some senior cops tried to enter. Lokhande was eventually caught and the girl was rescued.

Last week in Uttar Pradesh, two girls were reportedly taken hostage in a cybercafe where they had gone to get some documents copied. As per reports, the two were gangraped by four men who also allegedly made videos of the heinous crime. In another prominent case from 2018, a man claiming to be a casting director held a woman hostage in Bhopal and she was only rescued after she agreed to marry him.

In an entirely inverse incident last year, a police officer in Uttar Pradesh took responsibility for the daughter of a man who was shot dead after taking 23 children hostage in his home. As per reports, she was orphaned when following the death of her father, the girl also lost her mother, whom angry villagers killed. Read about the case.
