Her relative named Santram Patel was quoted saying, "I called 108 (the ambulance helpline) four times around 1 pm. I was told it will reach in 10 minutes. After it didn't arrive for two hours, we brought her to the Community Health Centre in Ajaigarh by a tractor-trolley. But, she delivered mid-way."

RK Pandey, the Chief Medical and Health Officer, on being asked about the incident claimed that he was unaware of any such thing. He added that he will take action in the matter after collecting information. An inquiry will also be set up, Pandey said.

Last month, in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu a group of female police officers came together to help a woman deliver her baby girl on the street in Kumbakonam. The woman who gave birth was reportedly mentally ill. Constable Suguna of the Kumbakonam west police station saw the woman, who is reportedly in her 30s, struggling with pain. That is when Suguna alerted other police officers in the area to come and help.

Inspector Baby of the Kumbakonam west police station said, “I received a call from Suguna and we reached the spot. Since the woman was wearing a big nightgown, we did not immediately realise she was pregnant. There was blood loss and we immediately called the ambulance. I told my station officers to get sarees and towels, and we surrounded the woman.” Read more.
