The French First Lady Brigitte Macron has finally broken her silence on her 25-year age difference with her husband and French President Emmanuel Macron.

While the media has written a lot on the issue, the president has lashed out at critics, saying that it is misogynistic that people are making an issue of the age difference.

In an interview with Elle magazine, the 64-year-old Brigitte said that she is a reminder of the age difference between her husband and her every day.

“Of course, we have breakfast, me with my wrinkles, him with freshness, but that’s how it is.”

The couple met when she taught the teenage president drama at school.

Macron also spoke about the pressure which forced the couple to abandon plans to give her the official title of First Lady. As many as 300,000 people had signed an online petition against the status of First Lady for Brigitte Macron.

She says that she is always surprised by media’s portrayal of her relationship.

“When I read about us, I always get the impression that I’m reading someone else’s story. Our story is so simple.”

“If I hadn’t chosen this, I would have missed out on my life,” she said. “I had a lot of happiness with my children and, at the same time, felt I had to live ‘this love,’ as Prévert used to say, to be fully happy.”

She says that her happiness was more important that society’s sexist views on women. “There are times in your life where you need to make vital choices,” she told the magazine. “And for me, that was it. So, what has been said over the 20 years, it’s insignificant.”

The French President has spoken out many times against the scrutiny his wife has faced. He has said that if he had been twenty years older than his wife, “then nobody would have thought for a single second that I couldn’t be an intimate partner”.

By the way, Donald Trump is also 24 years older than his wife! His comments on Brigitte Macron also made news. He told her “You’re in such good shape..beautiful.”

Why is there so much speculation about Brigitte Macron’s personal life? It is time we left her alone!
