The criminal branch had already filed a complaint against Pillai for allegedly deleting evidence, prompting lawyers to protest. Following director Balachandra Kumar's charges, the crime branch filed a complaint against Dileep and four others in January.
According to reports, when Kumar went to Dileep's house in 2016 to negotiate a project, he met the prime accused in the case, Pular Suni. He said that Dileep had a video of the incident and invited him to see it. Kumar claimed that he overheard a conversation at Dileep's house about a plot to eliminate officers investigating the issue. Kumar stated he waited to reveal his identity because he was afraid for his safety. The prosecution asked the trial court for a new probe shortly after the December disclosure. The court requested that further charges be filed, as per reports.
Dileep, his brother, brother-in-law, and two associates were charged with conspiracy, evidence destruction, and witness influencing. Dileep's request to have the new trial dismissed by the Kerala high court was denied.
