Keke Palmer Opens Up About Her Struggles With PCOS

American actress, Keke Palmer, opened up about her struggles with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in an Instagram post. The post had her unfiltered selfie revealing the acne and scars caused by PCOS. She said, “The least harmful thing PCOS can bring is acne.”

The 27-year-old cautioned her followers, “Hey you guys, for some of you this may be TMI, but for me my platform has always been used for things much greater than me.” She further shared how after trying several remedies and getting mislead by doctors, she self-diagnosed her ailment.

“I’m posting this to say that it’s okay and we can help ourselves. My skin has made me sad many nights but I do not give up on myself. I know this is not me and my body has been looking for help. I do not have a medical degree but I did the research and took what I learned to a doctor and that led them to a proper diagnosis. I’m not saying trust web md for everything haha but what I am saying is no one can help us like we can help ourselves,” she said.

According to National Health Service of United Kingdom, Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that affects how a woman’s ovaries work. It causes imbalance of reproductive hormones such as estrogen and testosterone. Some of the symptoms are irregular periods, migraines, facial hair growth, weight gain, insulin resistance, painful periods, ovarian cysts, and fertility problems.
