Kathryn Smith becomes the second NFL Coach

In less than a year, a completely macho game is seen progressing towards gender neutrality. Kathryn Smith has been chosen by the Buffalo Bills to be its first ever full-time female coach. Kathryn is promoted to be the special teams quality control coach. Earlier, she was working with head coach Rex Ryan as his administrative assistant for this season. She has been associated with Buffalo Bills for the last seven years.

“Kathryn Smith has done an outstanding job in the seven years that she has worked with our staff. She certainly deserves this promotion based on her knowledge and strong commitment, just to name a couple of her outstanding qualities, and I just know she's going to do a great job serving in the role of quality control-special teams," Bills coach Rex Ryan said in a statement released by the team, reported by ESPN.

Kathryn Smith has been chosen by the Buffalo Bills to be its first ever full-time female coach.

This reminds of a few months ago when in a similar case Jen Welter was promoted by the Arizona Cardinals to be its first female permanent coach. Jen Welter became the linebackers coach for the Cardinals.

I consulted with (Cardinals coach) Bruce Arians on this since he was really the first NFL head coach to make this kind of move when he hired a female linebackers coach through the summer. You can see the success some of these young ladies are having in the coaching profession, such as the young lady (Becky Hammon) that is an assistant to Coach (Greg) Popovich at the San Antonio Spurs, and realize how exciting this is for women like Kathryn Smith as well as the Bills organization," Ryan continued, states NFL.

Smith was with New York Jets for 12 years before joining Buffalo Bills this season. She has been associated with the game for a long time now since the first time she joined in as the game-day/special events intern. Then she became the Scouting intern in 2005 and a player personnel assistant in 2007. She has never looked back since.
