Ranaut, who never fears voicing her opinions, said she feels the ad tries to use "shrewd divisive concepts and advertising." For the unversed Ranaut is talking about Bhatt's latest ad for a bridal wear brand in which they question the tradition of Kanyadaan, or the ritual of giving away the daughter. The ad since its release has had the internet divided and received love and hate in equal measures on the internet.

The one minute 41 seconds long ad questions the Hindu practice of ‘giving away’ women during their marriage ceremony. A huge section of the society, however, believes Kanyadaan as an integral part of Hindu marriages.

Ranaut wrote a long post on Instagram pointing out how women are looked up to in our ancient scriptures. In the caption to the post she wrote, “Humble request to all brands ….. don’t use religion, minority, majority politics to sell things …. Stop manipulating naive consumer with shrewd divisive concepts and advertising…” She has even tagged the brand Mohey and the actor Bhatt in her post.

Ranaut has earlier called out several Bollywood celebrities. She is currently in mid of a legal battle with lyricist Javed Akhtar who has slapped her with a defamation case. She was seen during the hearing of the case at the Andheri Court yesterday.

Earlier during an interview, after actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death, Ranaut had hit out at Bhatt and said that Alia was judged as the Best Actress  for a "mediocre role" in Zoya Akhtar's film Gully Boy while her work in her directorial debut Manikarnika was side-lined. She has always spoken about the outsider-insider divide in Bollywood and been very critical of the privileges star kids enjoy.
