Kami aims at making a better and stereotype-free Pakistan that would give the transgender people their righteous stand.
This year particularly, Pakistan has reported many incidents of violence against the transgender community. For example, in May, a 23-year-old trans woman, Alisha, was taken to a Peshawar hospital after she was shot at. Later, she was denied treatment and died. Similarly, videos of sexual assault of transgender Pakistanis have been gone viral in the last few months. In fact, over 45 transgender Pakistanis have been killed since 2015 in the country’s northern province, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, BuzzFeed India reported.
The violence needs to be solved, and it has to be now. And, to do that activists like Kami are making their lives’ challenges public for all to see. That’s the only way in which the stigma the transgender community faces on a daily basis in Pakistan will go away. We wait for the moment when this community will no longer be marginalised in our society.
