According to reports, two years ago, Vismaya penned a love letter to her favourite actor Kalidas Jayaram. Unfortunately, it reached him only after the demise of the Kollam medico. She took part in a love letter writing competition in her college on Valentines Day, which she wished would go “viral”.

Vismaya’s friend Arunima shared the letter on social media and wrote, “She would joke that she wanted her love letter to her favorite actor Kalidas Jayaram to become viral. Then Kalidas would read it, call her, meet her and click a selfie with her. But now her dimples are all over the media, alas she has become viral…”.

Recently, the post caught the attention of the actor who responded to it saying, “Dear Vismaya, The letter you wrote to me reached me only when you were lost to the people who love you. Sorry! For that voice that no one heard! For the dreams that burnt to ashes!”.

The death of the 24-year-old allegedly due to domestic violence and dowry harassment has pushed many celebrities to speak up about the issues.

Joining the conversation on social media, Kalidas Jayaram too penned a note condemning the harassment and said that he is “deeply saddened” by Vismay’s death. “It’s absolutely unacceptable that despite the literacy rate and access to information and knowledge from all corners of the world, our people are still not becoming mindful of the severity of the crime dowry is and how nerve racking is abuse,” he wrote in a post shared on Facebook.

The actor further questioned the “societal stigma” imposed upon the victims and how the step to move away from a “toxic abusive space” is never accepted.

“Why is it so hard for us as an evolved society to just accept how unethical and hideous it is to ask/ encourage/ stay silent to dowry as a custom and how heartless can we be to stay silent to abuse of any kind!,” he added.

Who was Vismaya V Nair, alleged victim of dowry harassment?

Vismaya V Nair, a final year Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery student, was found dead at her husband’s house in Kollam district. She was married to S Kiran Kumar, an official at the Motor Vehicle Department, in March 2020.

A few days before the incident, Nair had informed her cousin in the text messages about the severe assault and sent images of injuries on her face, hands and shoulder.
