Fans of famous South Indian star Vijay are trolling The News Minute Editor Dhanya Rajendran for her tweet referring to one of the actor's films. Rajendran compared Vijay's 'Sura' with recently released 'Jab Harry Met Sejal'. The journalist is receiving threats and abuses from die-hard Vijay fans. She has filed complaints with Tamil Nadu police under non-bailable sections against four offenders.

On Friday (August 4), she wrote how 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' is “worse” than Vijay’s 'Sura' on a micro-blogging site. “I watched Vijay’s 'Sura' till interval and walked out. #WhenHarryMetSejal has made me break that record. Could not sit till interval,” she tweeted.

This triggered the fans of Vijay as they bombarded Rajendran with obscene messages and posts. The number of tweets has reached around 63.5k till date.

On the same day, a surprised Rajendran also tweeted, “OMG. I was only venting my frustration at that stupid movie. Not trying to start a war. Deleted tweet. Go sleep, Vijay fans.”

She claims that the trolling is “organised”. “There was a planned wave of trolls at the appointed time, 6 pm," Rajendran tweeted.

The four accused tweeted against Rajendran using different names, say the police. "We are adopting conventional methods to trace these people. Some have also deleted their accounts,” said a senior official investigating the case.

While actor Vijay hasn’t spoken on the controversy himself, a source close to him said, “We are studying if this is a motivated campaign against the actor," NDTV reported.

DMK president, MK Stalin, has come out in support of Rajendran’s freedom of speech. He tweeted, “Intolerance in any form, for expressing ones views in a democratic country is unacceptable,” along with a picture clarifying his stand on the issue.

People are now digging up Rajendran’s old tweets about the actor and mocking her for them. She said that most of the tweets are “sexual in nature”, which is the larger problem with trolling against women. She also disclosed how a twitter handle threatened to organise a mass trolling session at 6 pm on Sunday. Close to 20,000 tweets poured in around 12 hours.

SheThePeople.TV has reached out to Dhanya but she hasn’t responded yet.
