Jill Biden Appreciates Grammy Winning Iranian Singer Shervin Hajipour

An Iranian singer and songwriter named Shervin Hajipour won the Grammy for his song that he wrote for the anti-hijab protests that are going on in Iran. The singer is facing prison charges in Iran while his song titled Baraye was honoured at the Grammys.

The anti-hijab protests in Iran is being supported by many people both from inside and outside Iran. The world is standing together with the Iranians who are protesting for freedom and human rights for women after the cruel demise of Mahsa Amini in moral police's custody back in 2022. From actors and models to singers and scholars, everyone in the country is raising their voice against the injustice and among them is the voice of singer Shervin Hajipour who recently won Grammy for his song Baraye.

Shervin Hajipour Wins Grammy

Baraye became the anthem of anti-hijab protesters in Iran. The song described the motto of protest and why Iranians stand united against the authorities. Baraye means For in English and the lyrics of the song include-

"For dancing in the streets

and For the fear we feel when we kiss."

The song ended with the slogan-

"For women, life, freedom"

It became the voice of protesters in Iran. In the video released by Shervin Hajipour after the announcement, the singer can be seen sitting in a dark corner and wiping his tears away. He also posted on his Instagram account, "We won".

Soon after the release of the song on September 28, 2022, Hajipour was arrested by Iranian authorities for reportedly "instigating the violence" and "propaganda against the regime". Though he was released in October on bail, he still faces charges and prison time. His Grammy win was announced by USA's First Lady Jill Biden who said that the song can unite, inspire and change the world.

In her speech, Jill Biden said-

"This song became the anthem of the Mahsa Amini protests, a powerful and poetic call for freedom and women's rights. Shervin was arrested, but this song continues to resonate around the world with its powerful theme: Women, life, freedom".
