Shocking! Why Chinese Pop Singer Jane Zhang Infected Herself With COVID-19?

Desperate times can call for desperate measures, atleast this is what happened with China's pop star Jane Zhang. When the whole country is battling with a new wave of coronavirus. Zhang consciously infected herself with COVID-19.  

This has come as a shock because China is struggling to cope with a deadly wave, triggered by the BF.7 Omicron variant. Experts also speculated millions of deaths. Amid all this, Zhang pulling off the stunt was too much for people. However, why Zhang took such a step, and intentionally put her life in danger? 

She infected herself deliberately so that she would not face a risk of infection during her New Year’s Eve concert. Her desperate move has received a lot of flak after she shared the same in a social media post. 

Jane Zhang Infected With COVID, Shares On Weibo

The pop singer shared in a post on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo that she met several people infected with the virus so that she could catch it. Jane Zhang also known as Zhang Liangying stated further that she caught the infection when she went to visit friends who had tested positive. She revealed that she met “sheep”, a term used for virus carriers. 

The 38-year-old further confessed, “I was concerned that my condition during the New Year’s Eve performance would be affected. So I met a group of people who tested positive since I currently have time to recover from the virus."

It’s a worrying situation in China. There is a surge in COVID-19 cases, chaos at hospitals, crematoriums are overcrowded and there’s a medicine shortage. . Amid all this, Chinese singer and songwriter Jane Zhang deliberately infected herself with the coronavirus.

Zhang also touched upon how she recovered from the coronavirus. She first said that the virus lasted for a day, and after sleeping for a day and a night, all symptoms disappeared, drinking plenty of water and having vitamin C helped a lot. 

After receiving flak, Jane Zhang deleted her post and apologised for being insensitive. She said, “I didn’t consider things carefully before making my previous posts. I apologise to the public.” Further argued, “I was worried that if I got infected when the concert was held, it would increase the risk of my colleagues being infected again. So I was thinking that since it is an inevitable thing, why not get ill now when I don’t need to leave home so that I can go to work after I recover? It would be safer for all of us.”

Jane Zhang has a great number of followers on Weibo (43 million) and 269K followers on Instagram, something like this can influence people and create havoc. Zhang is known as Dolphin Princess, she received fame from a national singing competition Super Girl at the age of 21. With her poor financial background, she had to start earning early and took up a singing gig at the local pub.
