ISSF Ganemat Sekhon: India’s Ganemat Sekhon and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa won the gold medal in the Skeet Mixed Team event at the ISSF World Cup in Delhi on March 23.
The “India 1” team consisting of Ganemat Sekhon and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa defeated Kazakhstan’s Alexandr Yechsenko and Olga Panarina with a final score of 33-29. The win marks India’s second gold medal the fourth medal overall in skeet events in the ISSF World Cup. India won 14 medals in total, 7 gold medals, 3 silver, and 4 bronze medals.
The “India 1” team won with a score of 33 with Bajwa only missed one out of his 20 shots, while Sekhon missed six out of her 20 shots. The gold medal marks Sekhon’s third medal and Bajwa’s second medal in the World Cup. They competed against Kazakhstan’s team that scored 29 in the finals.
The other Indian team “India 2” did not manage to win the bronze medal, but finished in fourth place in the Skeet Mixed Team event after losing to the Qatar team. The “India 2” team consisted of Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Mairaj Ahmad Khan. They lost against Qatar’s team which consisted of Rashid Hamad and Reem Al Sharshani by one point. The final score for the “India 2” team and Qatar team was 31-32.
The ISSF World Cup was introduced by the International Shooting Sport Federation that provides a system for qualification to the Olympic shooting competitions. The World Cup started in 1986 and holds four competitions per year in each event. The venue at which the World Cup is held is decided by the ISSF. Common locations include Fort Benning, Seoul, Sydney, New Delhi, Lonato, and Nicosia.
