Ishrat Jehan's Counsel In Triple Talaq Case, Nazia Elahi Khan Booked For Impersonating A Lawyer

Khan was the lawyer of Ishrat Jehan in a triple talaq case in which Jehan was the victim after her former husband divorced her over the phone by uttering "talaq" thrice in 2014. Khan also moved to the Supreme Court in the case.

Who is Nazia Elahi Khan
Bengal lawyer Nazia Elahi Khan who gained fame after advocating the Triple Talaq case for Ishrat Jahan was arrested by the Kolkata Police on August 26 on charges of forgery and impersonation. According to news agency ANI, Khan duped a complainant to the tune of Rs 6,00,000.

Khan was arrested on Thursday for duping a client by impersonating a lawyer. According to ANI, a case has been registered against her.

Reportedly an official from the Girish Park Police Station said that an unidentified person filed a complaint against Khan, accusing her of not doing anything after accepting Rs 6 lakh from him to settle a matrimonial case. Following the same, Khan was arrested from her residence at Baguiati, Kolkata.

The complainant had reportedly filed a complaint against Khan earlier also but no action was taken back then. Hence, he filed a similar complaint at Girish Park police station in 2020.

Ever since the lodging of the complaint, Khan allegedly eloped the city and was on the run until now, the official added.

Khan was the lawyer of Ishrat Jehan in a triple talaq case in which Jehan was the victim after her former husband divorced her over the phone by uttering "talaq" thrice in 2014. Khan also moved to the Supreme Court in the case. Subsequently, she gained national fame and was applauded massively.

Jehan was reportedly one of the five petitioners in the triple talaq case. Khan has been reportedly fighting for the cause of women and also runs several NGOs for women.

Nazia Elahi Khan Joins BJP

Earlier, Khan had stated that the Modi-led BJP government at the Centre would give justice to women in the Muslim community. Later, she herself joined the part after her client, Jehan. She was handed the party flag by the BJP state president Dilip Ghosh.
