The actor who gave us some fantastic, and real grounded performances, Irfan Khan died in Mumbai after being treated for a colon infection. He was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour in 2018 and since had been under treatment in India and overseas. He died amidst his family which includes his wife Sutapa and two sons.
"My dear friend Irfaan. You fought and fought and fought. I will always be proud of you.. we shall meet again.. condolences to Sutapa and Babil.. you too fought, Sutapa you gave everything possible in this fight. Peace and Om shanti. Irfaan Khan salute," said Shoojit Sircar via a tweet.
"'I trust, I have surrendered'; These were the some of the many words that Irrfan expressed in a heart-felt note he wrote in 2018 opening up about his fight with cancer. He later shared another note to thank his friends and fans in early 2019.
Irrfan Khan's Angrezi Medium recently had its global premiere on OTT platforms. This was the much-awaited sequel to the mega-hit Hindi Medium. He was among the most dependable and intriguing characters of Indian cinema in recent times. Amitabh Bachchan tweeted saying his contribution was invaluable to Hindi cinema. The actor had been unwell for a long time. Earlier this week, he was hospitalised after being diagnosed with colon infection. He had only recently lost his mother.
Not only did he make an impact in Hindi films, but more recently he was also the Indian face in the films of the West. Khan worked in several international projects such as The Warrior (2001), The Namesake (2006), The Darjeeling Limited (2007), the Academy Award-winning film Slumdog Millionaire (2008).
