Gone are the days when a woman’s contribution to the outer world was just through charity and social work. Today, women are heading companies, working in sectors that were completely male-dominated for years and are rising above all the limits that were set for them. Here are two of the most dynamic women in the country today.
Shakuntala Divi, chairperson of YFLO
Shakuntala Divi is much more than the Chairperson of Young FICCI Ladies Organization. She also heads the asset management department at Divi Labs and properties. Belonging to one of the richest families in the country, Divi had given up on work to take care of her children but later with encouragement from family, she decided to get back into the game.
Divi believes in managing her time well. She told Deccan Chronicle , “I plan my whole week in advance and I make sure it doesn’t spill over to the weekend. At YFLO, working with a group of about 450 women, surely takes up a lot of time but it actually works out as a relaxation exercise for me.”

Vanitha Datla, Chairperson of Confederation of Indian Industry
Being the Executive Director and CFO of Elico Ltd and CII Chairperson cannot be easy but Vanita Datla does it well. Coming from a strong academic background, excelling at business was not difficult for her. She proudly told Deccan Chronicle , “We are also the only couple where both of us have been the chairpersons of CII.”
She adds, “Ever since I have taken up the job as the chairperson of CII, I have been in and out of the Secretariat, meeting bureaucrats, getting involved in the process of formulation of policies and making sure that the issues in the business industry are heard out by politicians.”
Datla started out as a financial assistant to an insurance agent in the US and later joined her husband in taking over another company. But she is not all about work. Datla reveals that she is a travel enthusiast and has been over 50 countries.
