The UN peacekeeping chief on Monday welcomed the deployment of the largest contingent of women peacekeepers from India in Abyei, saying female troops mean efficient operations. The platoon of women peacekeepers has been deployed in Abyei as part of the Indian Battalion in UNISFA and is India’s largest single unit of women peacekeepers in a UN Mission since it deployed the first-ever all-women’s contingent in Liberia in 2007. Abyei is a disputed zone on the border of South Sudan and Sudan, and has been accorded a "special administrative status."

Pilot Couple Killed In Nepal Air Crashes, 16 Years Apart

Anju Khatiwada, 44, was the co-pilot on a Yeti Airlines flight from Kathmandu that crashed on Sunday, killing at least 68 people and making it the deadliest plane crash in the Himalayan nation in thirty years. Khatiwada joined Nepal’s Yeti Airlines in 2010 after her husband, Dipak Pokhrel, also a pilot, lost his life in an air crash in 2006.

According to airline spokesman Sudarshan Bartaula, Khatiwada’s husband, “Dipak Pokhrel, died in a crash of a Twin Otter plane of Yeti Airlines in Jumla in 2006.” Bartaula added that Khatiwada received her pilot training using the funds she received from the insurance following the death of her husband.

Chandigarh Woman Hit By Car While Feeding Stray Dogs

In a shocking hit-and-run case in Chandigarh that was caught on a CCTV camera, an SUV hit a 25-year-old woman feeding a stray dog near her home and sped away.

The woman, Tejashwita, has suffered injuries to her head and is recovering at a hospital.

According to the family, the incident took place on Saturday night when Tejashwita and her mother Manjider Kaur were feeding stray dogs by the footpath.
