Mary Kom: The inspiration for all the women of our country and beyond, Indian Boxer Mary Kom announces that the Tokyo Olympics will be her final ones.
She mentioned the age factor of a player. Kom is 38-years-old currently ad has been boxing for 20 years.
Mary Kom is a six-time world champion when it comes to Boxing. Even though she has been boxing for two decades now, Kom had to wait for the London Games in 2012 for a shot at an Olympic medal when women were allowed to compete for the first time.
While making this shocking announcement to the Olympic channel, Kom said, "Tokyo will be my last Olympics, age matters here. I’m 38 now, going on 39." She further added saying, "Olympics is huge. For any sportsperson, participating and winning a medal at the Games is a dream, it changes lives."
Kom expressed her gratitude towards her achievements and humbly said, "Becoming an Olympian and winning the bronze changed my life too. It also inspired many women to take up sport, especially boxing." She added, "I feel proud. I want more girls to come out and fight. I hope there are no restrictions on them to come out and fight for themselves and their country."
