Close on the heels of the Pink Beat – an all-women police personnel patrol in the buses in Thiruvananthapuram, it is now the turn  of the railway division authorities to introduce some women friendly measures. Among the initiatives launched, the most important one is a new 24X7 security helpline exclusively for women passengers. Under this, there is one number, 9567869385, that will serve all the women passengers who travel between Vallathol Nagar near Shoranur to Kanyakumari. Women can get instant help if they find any kind of unsocial behaviour or other difficulties while travelling by train. A senior lady commercial inspector is always on the other side of the call, authorities confirmed.

Also, an emergency quota has been created for the ladies. So in case of situations like attending interviews for jobs, or any family emergencies, passengers can easily approach the office of the senior divisional commercial manger (SDCM) and request for a berth under this quota. Further, an SMS-based on-board housekeeping service (OBHS) facility will be shortly introduced in 27 long-distance trains.

Seems like women are on the priority list of the Thiruvananthapuram authorities. We welcome all such moves!
