Maharashtra: Five HIV Positive Couples Tie The Knot

Five HIV-positive couples got married in Maharashtra’s Latur district, where they grew up after being abandoned by their parents or losing their parents to the infection. The couples were married on April 22 at Hasegaon Village, where a social worker started a centre called "Happy Indian Village."

Happy Indian Village was opened under a project called "Sevalay" to care for a child who was infected by HIV-AIDS. Over the years, the centre has provided healthcare, education, and shelter to several children affected by the infection.

5 HIV-Positive Couples Get Married

As per the Press Trust of India, the facility houses nearly 50 HIV-infected children currently. So far, 23 HIV couples associated with the facility have been married. Seven of the HIV-positive couples are living at the "Happy Indian Village," and they have HIV-negative children.

The founder, Ravi Bapatale shared that he faced a lot of resistance when he started the facility. He expressed his happiness at being able to take care of many HIV-positive children over the years despite various obstacles.

HIV+ Couple Marry A Day Before VDay

Earlier this year, an HIV-positive couple from South 24 Parganas tied the knot a day before Valentine's Day. They both met a year ago during their routine checkup at a state-run hospital in Kolkata. The bride was affected by the infection from her parents, who had died of AIDS. The groom had been infected during childhood after being injected with an infected needle.

Girl Injects Boyfriend's HIV Blood

In other news, in August 2022, a 15-year-old girl from Assam injected herself with HIV-positive blood taken from her boyfriend to prove her love for him. The girl had met the boy on Facebook, and they had fallen in love over a span of three years. The girl also claimed that she had run away with him three times, but her parents always brought her back home.

Hajo police arrested the boy, and the girl was put under medical observation. The girl claimed that the boy had told her not to inject his blood into her, but she didn’t listen. She also asked that he be released as soon as possible.
