Various states around the country have now announced to give free COVID-19 vaccines to everyone above the age of 18.
This comes just after the Indian government made an announcement to make free vaccines available for everyone above 18 years of age on April 19. The move will be effective from May 1 onwards. This decision is a part of a “liberalised and accelerated Phase 3 strategy of COVID-19 vaccination."
Here are the states that have offered to give free COVID-19 vaccines in Phase 3
West Bengal
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that free COVID-19 vaccines to every person in the state. “One nation, one party, one leader shouts BJP all the time but to save lives they can’t have one price for vaccine. Every Indian needs free vaccine, regardless of age, caste, creed and location. GoI must fix ONE price for Covid vaccine irrespective of who pays— Centre or the States," she tweeted via her official Twitter handle.
She also announced the same at a rally in Tapan, South Dinajpur on Thursday.
Goa
The Goa government has also decided on inoculating people between 18-45 years of age for free. "I am pleased to convey Government approval to provide COVID vaccine doses to all population in the age group 18-45 through the state government free of cost," State Additional Secretary (Health) Vikas Gaunekar said in the letter. It will now work towards procuring five lakh doses of Covishield vaccine first.
Uttar Pradesh
On Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath made an announcement of giving free COVID-19 vaccines after having a meeting with his council of ministers. He also added that the COVID-19 vaccination centres in the state will have to increase and that a database will have to be created for the target age groups.
Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday announced that the state will give free COVID-19 vaccines to people aged above 18. A meeting was held before the decision was actually made. It became the third BJP-ruled state to make such an announcement after Assam and Uttar Pradesh.
Assam
The state's health minister of 1 crore COVID-19 vaccines after announcing to vaccinate people between 18-45 years of age for free. The chief minister of Assam said that the donations received for the COVID-19 management will be used up for this purpose.
Chhatisgarh
The state's Bijapur district recently decided to give away tomatoes in exchange for getting people vaccinated against COVID-19. Many praised the district for this move. Then on Wednesday, the state government made an official announcement for providing free COVID-19 vaccines to everyone aged above 18.
