Hathras girl wrote letter to PM: The Father of the five-year-old girl who wrote to the Prime Minister on June 12 seeking potable water in her village, went on an indefinite fast on June 26 over the slow pace of work and added pressure to his daughter's demands. The girl, hailing from Hathras village, demanded faster actions with the Jal Nigam project launched in August 2020.

The minor's father, Chandra Pal Singh holds an MBA degree and used to work in a private factory in Faridabad.

He complained that Jal Nigam's local administration and officials failed to give the project completion over the past 10 months. However, the officials claimed that the deadline of the project has been set and would be completed by September 2021.

Singh said, “I have been struggling to resolve the issue of water scarcity in my village--Nagla Maya for a long time and recently my five-year-old daughter Nikunj Singh, with help of her cousins, wrote a letter to PM Modi in this regard."

He further stated that for him, PM Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath are like gods, and he trusts them. He gave up food as well as water on Saturday and sat in front of photos of Modi and CM Yogi by lighting an Akhand Jyoti. He said that this will continue till every person in the gram panchayat gets potable water.

Jal Nigam (Hathras) executive engineer RK Sharma, rebutting Singh's allegations, said that work on the project was progressing at a fast pace and they will complete the project before the deadline.

This project would make potable water available for three villages of Mahasinghpur gram panchayat, including Nagla Maya.

Previously, Hathras district magistrate Ramesh Ranjan said that although the work for providing water to the village of the complainant was always on, it was disrupted because of COVID-19 restrictions and curfew, however, now the contractor has resumed work and will complete the project as soon as possible.
