During a wedding at Motihari in Bihar, a groom tried to flee. The wedding had just begun and the groom and bride were called upon to exchange garlands but he refused to marry her after the exchange. He also attempted to flee the venue and his reluctance to get married left the bride's family and the attendees shaken. The bride's family asked that the groom's family return all wedding goods and money, including the dowry.

According to media sources, a ring ceremony took place in Bettiah, Bihar, only six months ago. The ring ceremony was attended by guests from both sides. On his wedding day, however, the groom refused to marry the bride and attempted to flee quietly. He was apparently in love with another married woman, but he was forced to marry the woman by the groom's family.

The groom and his family were ordered by the panchayat to repay the wedding expenses and goods. Following that, the bride and groom came to an agreement. According to the bride's side, the wedding cost more than 20 lakh rupees, including 12 lakh cash. According to accounts, the groom belonged to a village near Bettiah's Yogpatti police station.

The groom's family was from Bettiah, which is the administrative centre of the West Champaran district, while the bride's family was from Motihari, which is the administrative centre of the East Champaran district. The groom's family arrived at the bride's residence after 'ghudchadhi.' The groom's side procession danced to the beats of a DJ and band during the journey. Both families also celebrated all of the wedding customs prior to the moment when the groom refused to marry.
