The first goal was netted in the 12th minute by Shona McCallin who broke into the Indian defence to score. The Indian girls did manage to ward off two penalty corners being converted in the first half with a strong defence, but at the same time failed to score a goal when they had their chance via a penalty corner. From the hosts side, the second goal was scored by Susannah Townsend in 28th minute via a rebound. So at halftime, Great Britain were already two goals up.

In the second half, the hosts kept up the heat, with another penalty corner getting converted by  Crista Cullen in the 38th minute, and yet another one by Kate Walsh in the 42nd minute. Helen Walsh then netted another goal in the 44th minute, taking Great Britain's tally to 5 goals.

The fate of the Indian team was sealed, but final stroke of misery was added when Susannah Townsend scored twice in the final minutes of the match, giving the hosts a thumping 7 goals to nil victory against the Indian team. A big disappointment for women's hockey fans.
