The Panchkula violence following conviction of Sirsa Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim on Friday observed a lot of hue and cry. While locals ran helter-skelter to save their lives, police guards fled away fearing their own safety. However, there was a woman IAS officer who took matter in her own hands and resolved to quell the situation.
Panchkula's Deputy Commissioner Gauri Parasher Joshi did everything she could do in her capacity to calm down the agitators.

A local resident even mentioned to ET that the area could have witnessed a lot of violence if she hadn't taken the important step of calling the army on time.
"We have been serving the local police with tea and biscuits for last few days, but the moment the Dera followers went on rampage the local police was the first to run,” he added.
It is ironical to note that a state that admonishes its girls for their gender saw a stellar show put by a woman IAS officer in safeguarding its own people.
Kudos to her for exhibiting exemplary courage!
The special CBI court in Panchkula is to pronounce Dera chief's quantum of sentence today.
