Women Enrollment In Higher Education Greater Than Males: Survey

The All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) survey for the year 2020-21 revealed that the female enrollment ratio has surpassed the male enrollment ratio with an increase from 18.8 million in 2019-20 to 20.1 million.

All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) of the year 2020-21 had revealed that the female enrollment ratio has surpassed the male enrollment ratio. The enrollment this year to higher education in females has increased to about 50% with respect to the total enrollment ratio as compared to last year.

Women's education has been a serious topic over decades and the authorities have made several attempts to spread awareness regarding female education. Through constant efforts over years, the number of female students has improved and a recent testimony is the results showed by the AISHE survey of the year 2020-21 in which it can clearly be seen that female enrollment has surpassed the male enrollment ratio.

Female Enrollment Ratio More Than Male: AISHE Survey

The survey reportedly revealed that the female enrollment was 1.88 crores in 2019-20 which increased by 2.01 crores in 2020-21. In addition to this, the percentage of female enrollment with respect to the total enrollment has increased to 49% in 2020-21 as compared to 45% in 2019-20 with an increase of about 44 lakhs in female enrollment which is equal to 28% increment. The increase in the number of female students in higher education has made the public hopeful towards an educated female community in near future.

Female enrollment in higher education saw an interesting trend in North Eastern states where it was 6.14 lakh as compared to the male enrollment of 5.92 lakh. Female enrollment in North East has been greater than male enrollment since 2018-19 and this time, for every 100 male students, there were 104 female students enrolled for higher education in North East.

Overall enrollment in higher education also saw an increase in 2020-21 as it jumped from 3.85 crores in 2019-20 to 4.14 crores this year. Out of the total enrollment, Government colleges and universities contributed about 35% and 73% respectively. In terms of total enrollment, the top six states in 2020-21 were Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Rajasthan.
