Federation Cup: S Dhanalakshmi Defeats Hima Das, Breaks PT Usha's 23-year-old Record

She managed to beat India's star athletes Dutee Chand and Hima Das in the 100m final, and 200m semifinal respectively.

S Dhanalakshmi breaks PT Usha's meet record

This feat got her name featured within the top 10 of the Indian all-time list. Dhanalakshmi also broke PT Usha's 23-year-old meet record of 22.80 seconds which was set in Chennai in 1998. Another athlete named Archana Suseendran from Tamil Nadu won her semifinal heats in 24.07 seconds.

Two years ago, Dhanalakshmi had come third at the Federation Cup after setting a record of 24.05 seconds. Then on January 24, she recorded 23.47 seconds in the Tamil Nadu State Championships in Sivakasi.

Another athlete named Swapna Barman returned after a long time to win the heptathlon event with a total of 5636 points.

Gracena Mary, an athlete from Kanyakumari joined the 1.80m club in high jumping.

Chanda from Delhi won the women's 800 metre race in 2 minutes 2.57 seconds which was the fastest time recorded since Tintu Luka's 2:00.58 in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. However, she couldn't race past the Tokyo Olympics' qualification mark of 1:59.50.

Lili Das from West Bengal managed to set her personal best record at 2 minutes 2.98 seconds and was able to spear ahead of MR Poovamma of Karnataka.

Other athletes such as Rachna (Haryana), Shalu Chaudhary (Delhi) and Aishwarya Mishra (Maharashtra) were able to improve their personal records too.
