Here are a few things to know about her:

Gonzalez is from Florida. Her mother is a math tutor and her father is an attorney who immigrated from Cuba.

She gave an 11-minute speech at an anti-gun rally, which went viral and signalled a ‘new strain of furious advocacy’, according to The Washington Post.

“We are going to be the last mass shooting… We are going to change the law,” she said

Gonzalez also responded to Trump’s tweet which said that neighbours and students had failed to flag Cruz to the authorities.

She said that they did. “Time and time again. Since he was in middle school. It was no surprise to anyone who knew him to hear that he was the shooter.”

She and other survivors spoke with Florida state legislators in Tallahassee on February 20.

She also spoke at the internationally televised town hall hosted by CNN where she criticised the National Rifle Association and the politicians who accept money from it. She said “You are funding the killers.”

“I want you to know that we will support your two children in the way that you will not," González said at the town hall. "The shooter at our school obtained weapons that he used on us legally. Do you believe that it should be harder to obtain the semi-automatic and...the modifications for these weapons to make them fully automatic like bump stocks?"

Gonzalez identifies as bisexual and is the president of the gay-straight alliance at her high school.

After high school she plans to enrol at the New College of Florida.
