Both initially hesitant about skydiving, they succumbed to the allure of the extreme sport. Little did Emma know that what started as an exhilarating adventure would soon transform into a life-altering nightmare.

Parachute Complications Unfold

As Emma and her instructor leaped from a helicopter, the joy of the free fall turned into sheer terror when complications arose with her parachute. In a podcast interview with news.com.au, Emma recounted the horrifying moment when she realized that the parachute meant to deploy was scrunched up in front of them.

"I thought 100 percent like this was it. And then we hit the ground. Somehow, I wasn't knocked unconscious at all. I was completely awake the entire time," she shared.

From Heaven to Hell: The Painful Descent

Despite the intensity of the fall, Emma landed facedown with her instructor on top of her. The excruciating pain and the belief that she might be in heaven turned into harsh realities as she assessed the damage.

"I remember thinking, 'Oh my god, Jemma's going to have to find me on the ground.' I remember thinking about my family, and the main thing I remember feeling is just kind of regret for not embracing my life fully up until that point," Emma recalled.

The Paralysis Revelation: Facing the Aftermath

Emma's friend, Jemma, landed safely but witnessed a horrifying scene as Emma lay on the ground, covered in blood. Rushed to the hospital, it was discovered that Emma's spine was broken in two places. Surgery on her back and pelvis followed, but the aftermath was life-altering.

More than a decade later, Emma still can't feel below her belly button, and she has no control over her bladder or bowel. However, she considers herself fortunate to be alive and has penned down her incredible journey in a book titled 'The Girl Who Fell From The Sky.'
