Educational institutes in Telangana will now be closing down amidst the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.
Sabitha Indra Reddy, the education minister of Telangana announced that this move will be implemented from Wednesday, March 24 onwards.
Which Educational institutes in Telangana will remain open?
This move applies to all educational institutes such as gurukul schools, government and private schools and colleges, hostels, etc, in Telangana. However, medical institutes will have to remain open. Online classes for students will continue as usual.
The State government has decided to implement this precautionary measure after reviewing the worsening COVID-19 situation in the state. The move takes into consideration the health and well-being of all the students, teachers, and educational staff.
Sabitha Indra Reddy also noted how state governments from other states such as Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh have already shut down their educational institutes.
Reddy has now urged everyone to follow all the COVID-19 norms seriously, such as wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, using sanitisers, etc.
Many COVID-19 clusters in residential schools and hostels have emerged in the last few days. This raised concerns among the authorities who then decided to shut down all educational institutes in Telangana.
The cumulative caseload of Telangana is 3,03,867 at the moment, and 1,674 people have died because of the virus.
In the state of Tamil Nadu, the chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami decided to pass all students from classes 9, 10 and 11 in view of the COVID-19 situation. On March 22, the Madras High Court upheld this order.
