A man who has been arrested for allegedly raping and sexually assaulting a minor girl in Delhi on Thursday, has been reported to be a repeated offender, according to multiple sources. The accused broke into an apartment in Paschim Vihar area and brutally raped a 12-year-old girl who was alone at home. Delhi Police have arrested him based on his criminal record. He has identified as Krishan Kumar, 33, who had also been arrested in 2006 for killing a 29-year-old woman after breaking into her home in Sultanpuri, Delhi.
Krishan was given life imprisonment in the murder case in 2006, however, was released in 2014 on grounds of “good behaviour”. According to the Delhi Police, the same year he tried to kill his brother while he was caught stealing from his house, ZeeNews reported.
The 12-year-old rape survivor underwent surgery at AIIMS hospital, but her condition is still critical, the police said earlier on Friday. Krishan grievously injured the girl with a pair of scissors, according to multiple reports. Before her neighbours found the girl in the balcony, covered in blood, Krishan had assumed she was dead and allegedly left her in the house. According to the police, the accused, a resident of Mangolpuri, is a school dropout and has two elder brothers, a report by Indian Express claims.
“After dropping out of school, he started working in a plastic factory, turned alcoholic over time and started committing thefts,” a senior police officer said. Reportedly, in the 2006 murder case, the accused and one of his associates broke into a house, and “the woman of the house tried to raise an alarm. The accused started hitting her with a brick, eventually killing her.” His brutal crimes landed him in Tihar jail where he was worked with the kitchen staff. His life imprisonment sentence was shortened and soon he was out of jail on grounds of ‘good behaviour.’
