Delhi clubs offer women safe ride home for New Year's Eve

Today is 31st December and people all over the world will be celebrating New Year’s Eve at midnight. Considering safety is a huge issue for women in the National Capital Region, many women have to unwillingly sit at home. Well, things are a little better this time. Women who don't own cars and don’t wish to take public transport (for reasons we all know too well,) can still celebrate the New Year's Eve.

Some clubs in Delhi will be offering the women a free ride home, following the past cases that involved brutal harassment in public transport. Arjun Khurana, the director of Quote Bar at Connaught Place, one of the joints offering cab services for their female guests told the Times of India, "We always escort women to their cars or to the parking; the cab services are an extension."

Rajeev Bajaj, VP operational, The Hiatus, Qutab Institutional Area, has similar views on the subject. He said, "There is no denying that every hangout is struggling with bookings this year because of the safety concerns and the ban on some radio taxis. But these are not the only reasons why we are providing free rides. The safety of our women clients is of prime importance, and that's why this service has become very crucial for us."

All of the clubs that are offering this service say that they will be doing thorough background checks on all their drivers. According to TOI, Umang Tiwari of OTB, said, "We are discussing the deal with a lot of taxi operators because we just don't want to tie up with the wrong people." Some of these joints have also hired private agencies to conduct background checks. The clubs will also ensure that no stags are allowed inside the club.
