Daklia family renounces their assets worth 30 crores to become Jain monks and lead an austere life. The family had a pharmaceutical business and gave up their entire wealth for a simple life. Bhupendra Daklia, a pharmaceutical montage, his wife, sons and daughters initiated themselves as Jain monks on January 27 after a five-day ritual ceremony.

A family of six, Daklias of Chhattisgarh renounced worldly pleasure and all of their assets to be initiated as Jain monks to lead an austere life. The pharmaceutical montage from Chhattisgarh, Bhupendra Daklia, along with his wife Sapna, two sons and two daughters, proceeded to their lives as Jain monks on January 27, after a five-day ritual ceremony.

Daklia family gave up their entire wealth worth around 30 crore rupees to lead a simple life to achieve salvation. As Jain monks, they are expected to live a life renouncing worldly gains and pleasures, surviving on alms and religious donations. The Daklia parents are around the age of 40 and their children fall in the age bracket of 16 to 22 years.

The family led a very simple life despite having enormous wealth, a relative Naresh Daklia told The National. The family had a big house but Daklia’s wife always believed in simple living, he said. “The family had no ceiling fan or air conditioners or even a refrigerator at home," He added.

“They will never touch money and will walk barefoot,” Naresh Daklia further added as he told that Daklia’s youngest son first wanted to give up the wealthy lifestyle and pursue the path of austerity.

The Daklia family had their last meal together before the five-day initiation ceremony. They also had their hair removed as per the rituals of initiation and a video of the family showed them dancing in colourful outfits on the day of initiation. Their relative Naresh Daklia also said that the family has a big heart for deciding to embrace monkhood by giving up their life of luxury.
