The 23-year-old girl who had accused former Union Minister Chinmayanand of sexually harassing her has been released on bail from Shahjahanpur district jail. She was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court on December 4, ANI reported.
- A 23-year-old law student had accused former Union Minister of sexually harassing her for a year.
- Chinmayanand was then arrested on September 20, as the case grew serious and the girl threatened to burn herself alive if no arrest was made.
- Though Swami Chinmayanand had agreed to mostly all the accusations levelled against him, the girl was later on booked for extortion.
- She was then sent to Shahjahanpur jail from where she was granted bail this Wednesday evening.
The 23-year-old girl who studied a master’s course in a law college run by Chinmayanand in Shahjahanpur had alleged that the 72-year-old leader first blackmailed her of making a video of her public that was taken by a hidden camera while she was taking a bath.
Extortion Case Filed On September 25
The girl, along with her three friends, was accused of extortion based on Chinmayanand’s complaint that alleged that the girl along with her friends had demanded INR five crore from him. She was then booked for extortion and sent to jail. However, on December 4, she was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court, ANI reported. The father of the woman said that they believe in the judicial system and will see this case through.
Back when the case was filed and Swami Chinmayanand was sent to jail, Naveen Arora, Special Investigation Team Chief said, “Swami Chinmayanand has admitted to almost every allegation levelled against him, including sexual conversations & body massage. Circumstantial evidences also being examined. He said he doesn’t want to say more as he’s ashamed of his acts.” (ANI tweet).
History Of The Case
The 23-year-old girl who studied a master’s course in a law college run by Chinmayanand in Shahjahanpur had alleged that the 72-year-old leader first blackmailed her of making a video of her public that was taken by a hidden camera while she was taking a bath. Then he allegedly used that video to call her to his residence inside the campus to give him “massages.” She also claimed that his aides have taken her to his room at gunpoint.
A video had also leaked online that allegedly shows Chinmayanand getting a massage by a young girl (speculatively the law student herself) while being completely naked. The video caused a stir since the student’s father raised an issue with the video going public as the student only gave it to the SIT for the purpose of the probe.
Though Swami Chinmayanand had agreed to mostly all the accusations levelled against him, the girl was later on booked for extortion.
When Law Student’s Family Accused SIT Of Torture
In November this year, the family of the law student filed a 15-page affidavit before the Allahabad High Court alleging that the Special Investigation Team of UP Police has harassed them. The family had also expressed in the complaint that they do not have faith in the investigation team. The brother of the rape survivor filed the affidavit in which he mentioned that the SIT is physically abusing them and mentally torturing them by trying to frame them in false cases. The members of the family including the brother, mother, and father of the survivor went into hiding after alleging that the SIT harassed them when they met then at their office on November 1.
