A woman from California revealed conceiving two daughters within five days. The 25-year-old after going through her initial scan understood she is expecting not one, but two girls, only conceived with a difference of five days apart.
The woman is identified as Odalis Martinez. The couple, Odalis and Antonio Martinez, from San Pablo, California, were expecting a baby girl in November 2020. However, the miscarriage took away the joy. Now that Odalis is pregnant and in a rare condition called superfetation, it seems like a miracle and surprising for many too. Superfetation is so rare that there are only about 10 confirmed cases and the unique ones often make headlines.
California Woman Superfetation Case
According to a report, the distinctive occurrence is known as superfetation, in which the first pregnancy is followed by a subsequent one. It is possible for a woman to conceive days or weeks later from the first pregnancy. So, the questionis superfetation happens.
Superfetation stands for the simultaneous occurrence of two pregnancies. This means days or weeks after the first ovum (egg) is implanted in the womb, a second ovum (egg) is fertilised by sperm. Further, it is possible that delivery of both babies could be delivered on the same day. Babies born through superfetation are frequently thought of as twins. The chance to get affected by superfetation is close to zero. Also, it is it’s not a condition that should be associated with risk or prevention.
Odalis Martinez said in a report, “They’re technically not even identical but everyone thinks that they are. They definitely look a lot alike. Sometimes me and my husband, well more my husband, get them mixed up with each other.”
It was shocking as well as exciting news as the couple had an unfortunate miscarriage in July 2020. They came to know it during their 12-week checkup. Oalis became pregnant in the first half of 2022. The next month, she became pregnant when the couple decided to give another shot at the baby. She expressed her joy that the test was positive and now ready to create a family.
