Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is reportedly going to marry Dr Gurpreet Kaur in a private ceremony in Chandigarh on July 7, as per reports.
So far the details of the ceremony are limited but Times Now reported that the Chief Minister of Delhi and the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party Arvind Kejriwal will also attend it. This will be Bhagwant Mann's second wedding after his divorce from his wife almost six years back. Mann has two children with his first wife and they all live in the United States.
As soon as the news of his wedding broke out, congratulatory messages poured in for Mann. Newly appointed School education minister Harjot Singh Bains, Punjab Congress Wing Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and others congratulated him on social media.Reportedly, Bhagwant Mann and Dr Gurpreet Kaur have known each other for four years and met in 2019. The 32-year-old Kaur is from Pehowa, Haryana and their family shifted to Mohali, Punjab. She is the youngest of three sisters, her sister Navneet Kaur Neeru lives in America and her other sister Kamaljeet Kaur Gaggu resides in Australia. According to Kaur’s family’s neighbours, she completed her MBBS from Maharishi Markandeshwar University (MMU) in Ambala. She is currently working as a physician. Mann and Kaur’s marriage will be solemnized at a Gurudwara as per the traditional Anand Karaj, in accordance with Sikh rituals.

reports have suggested that Mann's sister and mother arranged the marriage with Gurpreet Kaur who is a doctor by profession. More information on her identity is awaited. Reportedly, Mann's family wanted him to marry again so they took part in choosing the bride for him.
The Chief Minister will reportedly marry his bride in his official residence in the presence of his family members and close connections. Six years ago, Mann got divorced from his first wife due to unknown reasons. His first wife who is also the mother of his two children made her public statement after Mann was elected as the CM of Punjab.
She said, "Both our children have reached India and they will attend Bhagwant's swearing-in ceremony at Khatkar Kalan. They are overwhelmed and very excited." Several media reports suggested that Mann got separated from his first wife and children due to his political participation. The same was hinted at in a social media post made by him wherein he wrote that he is choosing Punjab over his family.
With his wedding announcement, Mann also approved the decision to provide 300 units of electricity for free in every household in the state. CM Mann tweeted, "We had given a big guarantee to the people of Punjab that as soon as the government is formed, we will give 300 units of electricity free of cost. This decision of the government has been approved by the cabinet today." Adding, "Now, 600 units of electricity will be waived on every bill. We will fulfil all the promises made to the people of Punjab."
