Beeswax diyas, known for their eco-friendly, sustainable, and cost-effective attributes, have become a symbol of celebration and emerged as a source of employment, particularly for women. Nimit Singh, a 33-year-old entrepreneur associated with an NGO, received a significant order from the Ayodhya Municipal Commission on January 18 to craft 1 lakh beeswax diyas.

How Did Barabanki Women Save The Day?

To fulfil this monumental order, Singh mobilized the skilled hands of women from Chainpurwa and Rajauli villages, who worked tirelessly to hand-craft the diyas within the tight deadline. Each diya, costing Rs 5, contributed to a total contract value of Rs 5 lakh.

"With a contract of Rs 5 lakh, as each diya costs Rs 5, I immediately mobilized women from Chainpurwa and Rajauli villages… Within hours, 300 women set to work at the Chainpurwa manufacturing unit. Driven by their devotion and the desire to contribute to this sacred occasion, they worked throughout the night to complete the work in a record time of 12 hours. I delivered the diyas to Ayodhya Municipal Commission’s office on Saturday (January 20)," stated Singh.

Emphasizing the unique qualities of the beeswax diyas, Singh highlighted their cleanliness, stating, "Unlike traditional oil lamps, beeswax diyas keep the area clean. No paints are used to make them." This eco-friendly approach adds a touch of sustainability to the celebratory occasion, aligning with the essence of the historic moment and the spirit of community contribution.

The women artisans from Barabanki have not only crafted illuminating artefacts but have become unsung heroes in the grandeur of the Ram Mandir Temple Consecration ceremony.
