Australian Open: Serena Williams Enters Semi-Final
World no.2 American player Serena Williams thrashed Britain’s Johanna Konta to make it to the Australian Open semi-finals on Wednesday. This is Williams’ 10th consecutive Grand Slam semi-final entry.
Six-time champion Williams outplayed Johanna with a straight 6-2 6-3, hence we can say that she’s on track for Slam No. 23.
Serena will next face off Croatia’s unseeded Mirjana Lucic-Baroni, who beat fifth seed Czech Karolina Plisokva 6-4 3-6 6-4. Mirjana is hitting back to this stage after a huge gap of nearly 18 years.

Williams (35), who has 22 Grand Slams to her name, was given a tough fight by Konta in the second set when the British player went up with 2-1. But Williams made a great comeback to score at 3-all and saved another break point in her next service game before closing the match. Williams finished with 10 aces, but only connected on 45 per cent of her first serves overall.
“Thirties is the new 10,” Williams said after her match. “No matter what happens, somebody 34 or older will be in the final,” India Today reported. It’s the second time in the last two years that three women in their 30s have reached the semifinals at major tournaments: Venus Williams (36), Serena Williams (35), and Lucic-Baroni (34).
Williams, who also reached the semifinals at the 2015 US Open, said, “The main focus is actually my serve. I missed a lot today. I got a little frustrated.”
Way to go, Serena!
